COVID-19 Claims the Lives of Thousands of Americans: Where will they spend eternity?

Yesterday CNN news reported that over 42,000 people in the United States have died due to the novel coronavirus and the number is rising. Sometimes, it appears those deaths are being viewed as merely statistical numbers instead of actual people. The fact is someone’s mom, dad, brother, sister, wife, husband, grandmother, grandfather, friend and/or colleague just lost his or her life to this horrible disease. Sadly, many have died alone in isolation, without saying their last goodbyes to their friends and loved ones. More importantly all of these people, upon breathing their last breaths, have entered into eternity.

It’s important to have a biblical view of eternity because it is the only view that holds true. All other views are false. No one can approach God the Father without believing on His Son; Jesus. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me,” John 14:6. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life,” John 3:16. No matter how many good deeds a person does, how rich, what level of success or how nice a person is, no one can enter heaven without having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through faith.

According to the bible, there is life after death. After a person dies he or she will spend eternity in one of two places; heaven or hell. What determines where a person goes after he/she dies? The answer to this question depends on whether he/she has repented and believed on Jesus Christ. Jesus said “He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be damned,” Mark 16:16. “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost,” Acts 2:38. Those who have repented of their sins, accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior and continually abide in Him, will spend eternity in heaven where there is everlasting joy and peace. Those who do not will die in there sins and spend eternity separated from God in a place called hell, where there is continual torment, suffering and unquenchable fire. “Where their worm dies not, and the fire is not quenched,” Mark 9:44

The physical mortality of everyone is a scientific fact. One day we will leave our earthly bodies and enter eternity, never to return to this world again. “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,” Hebrews 9:27. The good news of the gospel is Jesus loves you and died for your sins. He wants you to have eternal life. “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance,” 2 Peter 3:9.

Ultimately, where you go after you die is your decision. I urge and even plead with you to repent and put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Hell is too painful and eternity is too long.
