Amid the recent coronavirus outbreak, many are unsettled and fearful of what the futures holds. People are hysterically purchasing disinfectants, food and toiletries in an attempt to prepare for the worst. The global financial system appears to be heading for economic collapse. More than ever, people are searching for answers.
The truth is, the answers cannot be found in the things of this world. You see, this world is temporary and is passing away. As Christians we are instructed not to place too much value on the things of this world. Our treasure is in heaven and our peace comes from knowing and being known of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. “While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18
While we live in this world and are often affected by things that happen in this world, we know this world is not our home. Jesus Christ gives, those who truly believe and follow Him, true peace the world does not possess. As a result, we do not have to fear. We rest in His promise. Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid,” John 14:17.
His peace is not like this world’s peace. This world’s peace is circumstantial. When things are going well the people of this world have a sense of peace but when things are unstable or difficult, the world panics and loses all peace. The peace of God supersedes the peace of this world. It is a river that never runs dry. It is stedfast and unshakeable, regardless of surrounding circumstances. This peace keeps, followers of Christ from becoming overwhelmed and stressed out in difficult times. It is an inner peace of knowing the one who has power and control over all things. “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus,” Philippians 4:7.
There is good news for all who do not possess the peace of God. Jesus Christ loves you and wants to give you His peace. He is one prayer away. Repent, believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and you will be saved. “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved,” Romans 10:9. Do you have the peace of God or are you terrified of what the future holds?
